Back in June, several major Swiss supermarket chains, including Migros and Denner, announced that they had pulled out of negotiations with Coca-Cola, leading to products manufactured by the US drinks giant disappearing from shelves. Now a deal has been reached, and the fizzy drinks should soon be available once again.
Coca-Cola Switzerland and Migros reach deal on pricing
Coca-Cola and Migros have finally agreed on new prices, meaning that well-known soft drinks like Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite will soon be returning to Swiss supermarket shelves. "The negotiations between the Migros Group and Coca-Cola HBC are concluded," a spokesperson told Blick.
The dispute, ongoing since earlier this year, saw the Swiss retailers accuse Coca-Cola of charging them higher prices than other retailers abroad, despite the fact that the beverages are manufactured in Switzerland under licence.
As the negotiations dragged on, the supermarkets stopped buying Coca-Cola products from the manufacturer based in Zurich, and began importing low-cost products from other countries.
Migros declines to say whether Coca-Cola will cost more in future
With new prices agreed for both Migros and Denner, these imposts have been discontinued, and recognisable Coca-Cola products will start to reappear on shelves - but only once the current imported stock has sold out. "We are currently selling off remaining stocks of imported goods before the shelves are restocked with Coca-Cola products from Switzerland,” the spokesperson said.
Migros declined to comment - to avoid alerting its competitors - when asked by Blick whether Coca-Cola products would now be more expensive for customers.
