99 percent of SWISS flights operated as planned
SWISS, the national airline in Switzerland, has shared a report summarising its operations during the Christmas and New Year period (December 22, 2025 to January 4, 2026). The airline has reported that it flew around 630.000 passengers during one of its busiest times of the year.
Despite winter weather conditions which tested SWISS’s ability to operate in snow and strong winds, 99 percent of flights during this time operated as planned, reports Watson.
SWISS flight punctuality improved compared to 2024
Furthermore, flight punctuality actually improved compared to the Christmas period in 2024. 67,3 percent of SWISS-operated flights departed on time, an improvement of 8,5 percentage points. The company also shared that the number of flights delayed by more than 30 minutes decreased to 15,5 percent, a 6,7 percentage point reduction.
The number of cancelled SWISS flights also decreased, with the company recording a flight schedule stability of 98,9 percent, which is a 2,5 percentage point improvement compared to 2024. Cancellations largely occurred due to “strong winds and snowfall at European airports and on the US East Coast”.
The first two weeks of the year, however, saw Switzerland coated in a thick layer of snow, which caused travel delays on public transport and at some airports. According to SRF, a number of SWISS flights were cancelled or delayed due to low temperatures, ice and snow.
