SWISS and Swiss Federal Railway (SBB) have announced that they are expanding the SWISS Air Rail network to include St. Gallen, Constance and Locarno, bringing the total number of destinations on offer to 24.
St. Gallen, Locarno and Constance added to SWISS Air Rail
Passengers travelling between Zurich Airport and St. Gallen, Locarno and Constance in Germany can now benefit from booking a combined public transport and flight ticket. The Swiss flag-carrying airline announced in a press release that the three cities have been added to the SWISS Air Rail network, starting from October 27, 2025.
SWISS Chief Commercial Officer Heike Birlenbach explained why the cities were added to the network: “St. Gallen as a centre of business, industry and further education, Locarno with its international film festival as a top tourist destination and Constance as the gateway to the Lake Constance region.”
SWISS hopes to make air and rail travel smooth and easy
The SWISS Air Rail network was initially launched in 2019 and connected Basel and Zurich Airport. After that, the network was expanded to include cities such as Geneva, Lucerne, Lausanne and Munich. The recent additions bring the total number of destinations on offer to 24.
According to SWISS, the combined train and flight ticket makes “air and rail travel as smooth and easy as possible”. Passengers booking a flight via SWISS can select a train station to travel from and to, and then use a single boarding pass for the entire journey. In the event of a train delay, connections are also guaranteed.
SWISS has also recently announced its summer 2026 flight schedule, which includes the addition of two new European destinations, increased flight frequency to popular summer holiday hot-spots and a focus on 2026 FIFA World Cup host cities.
