This weekend and early next week is shaping up to be a scorcher in many parts of Switzerland. Temperatures up to 35 degrees have been forecast for next Monday, August 12, before thunderstorms roll in.

Temperatures of 35 degrees forecast for Switzerland on Monday

The temperature is rising once again as we head into the weekend in Switzerland. Starting from Saturday, August 10, we will see three to four days with temperatures significantly higher than 30 degrees across the whole country, and some tropical evenings will make for a sticky night’s sleep.

Monday looks set to be the hottest of the mini heatwave, with MeteoSwiss forecasting temperatures of around 35 degrees for Basel and Geneva, and just a few degrees colder in slightly higher-altitude Swiss cities like Zurich and Bern.

Thunderstorms to roll across Switzerland from Wednesday

If you’re not a fan of hot weather in Switzerland, the good news is that the heat won’t be sticking around for long. According to MeteoSwiss, Tuesday will bring the first thunderstorms to Alpine areas, which will then spread across the whole country by Wednesday and bring the temperature significantly down.

However, tropical nights where the temperature doesn’t sink below 20 degrees look set to hang around from Saturday to Wednesday. Perhaps time to read our tips on getting a good night’s sleep during a heatwave.
