PLC Developer (m/f/d)
About this role
We are looking for an engaged and qualified Senior PLC Developer (f/m/d) to strengthen a cross-functional engineering team for an international company in the medical device industry located in Rotkreuz. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in designing, bringing up, and documenting modular real-time control software for next-generation automated instrument systems.
General Information
Start Date: As soon as possible (Latest possible start date: 01.12.2026)
Duration: 4 years (until 31.12.2030, with a high likelihood of extension)
Workplace: Rotkreuz
Workload: 80–100%
Home Office: Yes (up to 1 day per week, onsite presence required for instrument testing)
Travel: Occasional international travel (less than 10%, primarily to Germany)
Tasks & Responsibilities
PLC Software Engineering: Design, build, and maintain modular, structured real-time PLC software from the ground up in Structured Text (ideally utilizing B&R controller platforms).
Electrical & Hardware Design: Perform hands-on electrical engineering tasks including cable design, wiring schemes, PCB layout/schematics design, cabinet layout reviews, and EMC testing.
System Bring-Up & Integration: Provide active, hands-on support for bringing up new instrument modules, interfacing existing automation designs, and conducting integration tests on live instruments.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with hardware, mechanical, and high-level software teams to ensure seamless integration between physical hardware, electrical components, and control software.
Compliance & Formal Documentation: Author, maintain, and own the formal technical documentation for the control software and electrical subsystems in line with industry standards.
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Conduct thorough root-cause analysis and issue tracking during instrument testing and integration phases in a structured, pragmatic manner.
Qualifications & Requirements (Must-Haves)
Education: University degree (BSc / MSc / Fachhochschule) in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
PLC Development Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on, professional experience developing industrial PLC control software (Structured Text).
Electrical Design Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in electrical hardware engineering, including reading/interpreting schematics, wiring, cable drawing, and PCB design.
Software & Design Toolchain: Proven proficiency in standard PLC development environments and electrical/PCB schematic tools.
Cross-Functional Working Style: Pragmatic problem-solving mindset with strong social skills and a proven ability to thrive within an interdisciplinary, agile team environment.
Language Skills: Professional proficiency in both German (fluent) and English is essential.
Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Haves)
Experience with B&R Automation Studio, EPLAN, or Siemens Xpedition.
Practical programming experience with C# and Python for automation or scripting purposes.
Deep experience in motor control applications and complex automated instrument workflows.
Strong advanced background in complex electrical system design and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance.
