The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has announced it will expand its night train service in Switzerland starting December 14, 2025.

SBB to expand night train offering from December

Whether you’re a late-night partygoer enjoying all that Zurich has to offer or if you’re an early bird off on an adventure from Switzerland’s largest airport, the new SBB-operated night trains may be of interest.

The Swiss public transport operator has announced that, from December 14, it will run trains through the night on most weekends connecting Bern, Olten, Zurich HB, Zurich Airport and Winterthur.

For example, 20 Minuten reports that a train is planned to depart from Winterthur at 1.40am, stopping in Zurich HB at 2.02am, Olten at 2.34am and arriving in Bern at 3.04am. Going east, a train will depart Bern at 3.00am, arriving in Olten at 3.27am, Zurich HB at 4.03am and Zurich Airport at 4.16am.

Rest of Switzerland could get night trains in the future

According to 20 Minuten, a regular night train service is also planned to increase connections to Geneva Airport. Trains will run early in the morning between Fribourg, Lausanne and Geneva Airport, Sion and Geneva Airport and Biel and Lausanne with a connection to the airport.

As part of SBB’s long-term vision, the company wants to expand its nighttime services to long-distance routes across Switzerland, such as between Zurich and Geneva. Details on when and which routes will be included in the expansion are yet to be revealed.
