Migros offers free drinks and cakes to all customers on May 23 and 24

As part of its 100-year anniversary, Migros has prepared a special treat for anyone who visits its stores on May 23 and 24. Every one of its customers will be offered cakes, refreshments and more, entirely for free.

Free drinks and cake offered as part of Migros centenary

From downsizing and selling off subsidiaries to cutting costs on the shelves, it has been a rocky year for Migros. However, for now at least, the largest supermarket in Switzerland can put this behind them to celebrate 100 years since Gottlieb Duttweiler founded the company and created an iconic local brand.

In the latest part of its “Merci” campaign to celebrate the centenary, Migros will be treating its customers to free food and drink. Every single one of its 642 branches will be participating in the celebration.

When can I get a free drink at Migros?

On May 23 and 24, anyone who visits Migros will be treated to a glass of its iconic Ice Tea, a cup of Coffee B, the own-brand that uses biodegradable balls instead of aluminium capsules, or a glass of its brand new non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Free apricot tarts will also be given to customers while stocks last, while children will be given free colouring pencils and books.

“And of course, there will be time for a chat, a smile, and help with packing purchases – small gestures with a big impact,” the company wrote in a statement. In 80 larger stores, “selfie walls” will be set up, so that you can get a snap with your favourite supersized Migros products.

While its customers treat themselves to a cake and a glass of bubbly, and the Migros Bus continues to tour the nation, the company’s workers are also in for a few treats during the anniversary. In September, Migros will host a massive music festival for all its 99.175 employees at the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival arena in Glarus. The event will feature a number of famous Swiss musicians, from Stephan Eicher and Lo & Leduc to Melanie Oesch and will cost the company 30 million francs.
