Twint, the popular service for making payments across Switzerland, is introducing a new feature. From 2027, users will be able to set up recurring direct debits.
Swiss banks support Twint’s direct debit offering
Gone will be the days in Switzerland of filling out paper forms and confusing direct debit authorisations. Swiss payment provider Twint has announced that a new direct debit system for recurring payments will launch in 2027.
Swiss banks have also confirmed they are on board with the new system. Across Switzerland, over 70 banks enable their customers to utilise Twint for payments.
The new Twint feature can be used to schedule recurring payments for things like health insurance premiums, energy bills and subscription services. Customers will be able to manage everything directly in the Twint app.
The goal is to reduce “cumbersome processes” and is expected to help lead to “fewer forgotten invoices,” reports blue News. In a previous press release about the “next generation of direct debit”, Twint said that with the new system the company will “reimagine the direct debit procedure in digital and modern fashion.”
LSV+ direct debit to be discontinued in Switzerland
Twint is a mobile phone app used by around 6 million people in Switzerland to pay for items or bills by either scanning a QR code or entering details via a mobile number.
Twint’s new feature is designed to replace the LSV+ (Lastschriftverfahren+) direct debit system, which will be discontinued in Switzerland on September 30, 2028.
