Switzerland’s popular banking app Twint has received a major upgrade this March, the company has confirmed. The three new features make it even easier to use the app, especially to make purchases on the internet.
In a statement, Twint announced a raft of upgrades to its app, which is now accepted by approximately 80 percent of retailers and supermarkets in Switzerland and sports 5 million users. Along with making the app simpler to use for customers, the new features also make it easier for entrepreneurs to track their business.
From now on, businesses will be able to offer “Express Checkout” to their customers when they shop online. This allows users to create a special Twint ID, which contains all the details required for delivery.
Then, when the user scans the Express Checkout with their mobile phones, all their name and delivery details are instantly filled in. This promises to make online shopping even faster and more convenient by wrapping payment and delivery details into one scan at the touch of a button.
New Twint Business Portal launched for businesses
In addition, merchants will now be able to send text links to request payment from customers. These users then simply click on the link and pay for the service via the app.
Finally, the company has also launched the Twint Business Portal. This will allow businesses and merchants to see exactly how much money is being paid and the number of successful and unsuccessful transactions, and can send notifications whenever a payment is made.
Twint continues meteoric rise
The news tops off what has been several years of record growth for Twint. The payment service - which connects to a majority of major Swiss banks and allows users to quickly pay for items and send money to friends and family - has gone from handling 4 million transactions in 2017 to 773 million in 2024, a new record.
Along with being accepted by most businesses and over 40.000 clubs and non-profit organisations, Twint's main strength has been its speed and practicality. For instance, the company claims it saved drivers 11 million Swiss francs in parking charges last year, because they were able to check out quicker via the app.
