SBB launches new flexible saver ticket
Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and Alliance SwissPass have announced the launch of a new flexible saver ticket, known as the Sparbillet Flex. Here’s what you need to know about the new Swiss public transport ticket.
New SBB Sparbillet Flex ticket can be cancelled at any time
Already available for purchase via the SBB app or webshop, the Sparbillet Flex combines the affordability of a saver fare with the flexibility of a regular ticket. It is a train-specific ticket that can be cancelled any time up until departure for a 50-percent refund. And with fares discounted by up to 50 percent, it’s a cost-effective way to travel on public transport.
According to SBB, Sparbillet Flex tickets can be booked starting six months from the date of travel (the earlier you book, the cheaper your ticket is likely to be).
SBB customers say they value flexibility
Currently, saver tickets are only valid for certain trains and times, and are almost never refundable. The only option available for passengers whose plans changed was to get a refund (minus a 10-franc fee) for unused tickets purchased on the same day. This option will now be phased out with the new Sparbillet Flex.
SBB has introduced the ticket in response to passenger demand for more flexible refund conditions, according to 20 Minuten. A recent customer survey found that more than 60 percent of saver ticket customers want greater refund flexibility.
