The coffee and catering association CafetierSuisse has announced that the price of a cup of coffee in Switzerland has risen for the sixth year in a row.
Cup of coffee costs 4,65 Swiss francs on average
Coffee drinkers in Switzerland will have to come to terms with paying more for a cup of coffee in restaurants and cafes across many Swiss cities. CafetierSuisse has announced that the price of a café crème has increased for the sixth year in a row, rising from 4,58 Swiss francs in 2024 to an average of 4,65 Swiss francs in 2025, reports Watson.
Coffee prices in the alpine nation have been steadily increasing in recent decades. A cup of coffee cost 2,83 Swiss francs in 1995, 3,57 Swiss francs in 2005 and 4,20 Swiss francs in 2015. Over the last 10 years alone coffee prices have risen by 45 rappen.
While coffee prices continue to rise, figures show that Switzerland remains a country of coffee addicts. In 2024, people in Switzerland drank 1.237 cups of coffee per capita, which, according to Blick, is a “world-leading figure!”
Businesses struggling with rising operational costs
CafetierSuisse said that the reason for the coffee price increase this year was that many businesses are “struggling with declining margins, increased operating costs, and demand that often falls short of expectations,” Blick continues.
Coffee isn’t the only commodity rising in price. The cost of some chocolate in Swiss supermarkets increased by as much as a third in 2025. Furthermore, people are also paying more for other living costs such as rent prices and health insurance premiums.
