UNCTAD Internship in the Division on International Trade and Commodities
About this role
Duties and Responsibilities
The internship positions are located in the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The internships will be located in the Trade in Services Section, Trading Systems, Services and Creative Economy Branch, Division on International Trade and Commodities (DITC). Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the department to which she/he is assigned and the period during which she/he will undertake the internship. In particular, the applicant will typically perform the following duties:
- Attending meetings and preparing summary reports;
- Supporting communication and outreach activities related to the work programme;
- Providing assistance in the organization and servicing of webinars, round tables, seminars, etc;
- Assist in providing inputs to documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects;
- Drafting inputs for technical papers and analytical studies relating to services trade data and services trade policy
- Assist in preparing inputs for presentations by members of the team;
- Assist in performing other related duties as required.
Training and mentoring will be provided all along the internship by the supervisor (s) and team of colleagues in the Office. To work remotely the applicant shall have full access to a computer with a modern browser in which to run the latest version of Office 365 applications that will allow him/her to perform the tasks within the scope of the internship. The computer must have basic IT security best practices implemented.
Qualifications/special skills
The United Nations internship programme is intended to expose students or recent graduates to the United Nations in order to enhance their educational experience and to help them to gain experience in the work of the Organization. Therefore, applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
Moreover, interns should:
- Should be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
The candidate’s university degree must be in the area of economics, statistics, international trade, trade law or a related area. Knowledge of Excel is desirable, knowledge of Power BI, Stata, R is an advantage.
Languages
Fluency oral and written in English is required for the internship. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
