Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located primarily in the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The internship will be located in the Division on International Trade and Commodities (DITC), Competition and Consumer Policies Branch. The duties and responsibilities of the intern shall include:

Conducting legal and economic research on emerging issues in competition and consumer protection laws and policies using multiple research sources; identifies and selects relevant material, analyzes information and presents findings for internal review.
Assisting in the drafting of background papers for the intergovernmental meetings on competition and consumer protection law and policy, and presentation materials for other events.
Attending meetings and preparing summary reports.
Contributing to the organization of webinars and technical cooperation activities on competition and consumer protection laws and policies.
Assisting in the implementation of technical cooperation programs.
Performing other related duties as required.

Training and mentoring will be provided all along the internship by the supervisor(s) and team of colleagues in the Branch.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).

Moreover, interns should:

Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Applicants must preferably pursue studies in law, economics, or related fields. The University degree must be in the area of economics, development, law, political science or other social sciences deemed appropriate.
