UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) – Senior Policy Consultant for Chilean Taxonomy Implementation
About this role
UNEP FI requires a Senior Policy Consultant for the Chilean Taxonomy Implementation (Project Lead) to lead technical guidance and work in tandem with local experts and key stakeholders to fulfill the sustainable finance taxonomy project for Chile.
Result of Service
The project includes two main phases: Phase I focuses on preparing the banking sector for the implementation of the Chilean Taxonomy through testing, piloting, and evaluating its application in portfolios and processes. Phase II involves developing a roadmap for the regulatory adoption of the Chilean Taxonomy to ensure its implementation in the banking sector, linking it with the broader sustainable finance policy ecosystem.
Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will support the Ministry of Finance of Chile, the Commission for Financial Markets, and the Superintendence of Pensions. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting pilots for implementing the Chilean Taxonomy in the credit portfolios of up to six banking entities.
- Performing gap analyses of banking processes for green credit management.
- Developing a standardized reporting framework for financial institutions.
- Documenting pilot findings, challenges, and best practices.
- Creating a guidance document on the practical implementation of the taxonomy for the banking sector.
- Designing and delivering a capacity-building program for the banking sector.
- Assessing regulatory scope and integration pathways for the taxonomy.
- Developing a phased, binding implementation roadmap for the private sector.
- Providing training sessions and workshops for regulators and potential regulated entities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Master’s degree in Environmental Management, Engineering, Sciences, Law, Economics, Business Administration, International Relations, or Finance. A bachelor’s degree may be accepted with 10 years of relevant experience.
- Professional Experience: At least eight years of experience in sustainable finance, with a special focus on European Union sustainable finance policy frameworks.
- Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaborative platforms.
- Desired Attributes: Experience in financial strategy or macroeconomic policy, hands-on experience with EU Taxonomy implementation, ability to engage with financial regulators, and strong analytical and communication skills.
