As a Construction Manager (Chef de chantier), you will lead projects from design to handover ? defining plans, setting safety standards, and coordinating trades to deliver on time and to the highest quality. Working with EHS, project managers, and technical experts, you'll ensure every build is safe, compliant, and built to last.
The Construction Manager will be in charge of:
- Contribute to detailed design reviews and provide input on execution planning.
- Prepare the construction site setup in coordination with SMEs and subcontractors (space planning, flows, utilities, access).
- Ensure reception and tracking of all legal and required documentation, including safety-related documents, to secure a safe start of site activities.
- Develop and ensure the proper use of lifting plans and other safety procedures.
- Lead daily construction execution according to the project schedule, identifying and addressing any potential deviations.
- Maintain and guarantee safety standards throughout all phases of construction, ensuring compliance with HSE requirements without being the designated HSE specialist.
- Coordinate on-site activities, supervising subcontractors and external companies to ensure smooth collaboration and coactivity.
- Conduct and participate in risk assessments (JRA, LOTO, lifting operations, etc.) and ensure corrective actions are implemented where needed.
- Monitor site progress (progress reports, spot checks, work log approvals) and ensure 'base de vie' requirements are met.
- Maintain proactive communication with SMEs, Engineering Lead, and project stakeholders; report delays, risks, and progress.
- Conduct weekly site audits, general inspections of tools and equipment, and enforce corrective actions when required.
- Participate in project close-out activities and contribute feedback for continuous improvement.
Requirements
What will make you successful:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in construction management, civil / mechanical / industrial engineering, or related field.
- At least 5 years' experience in construction management, ideally in pharma, chemical, or biotech production environments.
- Strong technical expertise in building, HVAC, piping, CAD, and electrical/instrumentation systems.
- Knowledge and practical experience in HSE principles, with proven ability to act as a guarantor of on-site safety.
- Ability to prepare and maintain lifting plans, risk assessments, and safety documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to produce clear progress reports for project leaders.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt messages to various stakeholders (contractors, SMEs, management).
- Pragmatic problem-solver, able to act independently and take initiative.
- Training in safety procedures and/or significant on-site experience in this area is a strong asset.
- Committed and adaptable, thriving in fast-paced, regulated environments.
- Fluent in French and English, spoken and written.
