Wet and windy weather forecast for Swiss National Day 2025

By Abi Carter

Anyone preparing to celebrate Swiss National Day tomorrow should, unfortunately, probably come up with a wet weather plan. The changeable weather we’ve been seeing recently will continue through Friday and into the weekend.

Swiss National Day looks to be a rainy one in 2025

For the national holiday on Friday, August 1, the weather looks set to be more autumnal than summery, Watson reports. After a mixture of sun, clouds and rain on Thursday, August 1 looks set to be wet and windy.

Throughout Switzerland, the day will see intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms along the Alps, with the sun only occasionally poking its head through the clouds. A brisk wind will keep the temperature down to around 20 degrees celsius.

The best chance of dry weather all day is towards the evening, when the changeable conditions are expected to settle down and provide some dry spells.

Wet and windy weather to continue into the weekend

Unfortunately, even postponing the celebrations to Saturday won’t help the situation, as the weather this weekend looks like it will remain unsettled, rainy and thundery, with highs barely reaching 20 degrees.

The good news is that Sunday looks drier, sunnier and slightly warmer. Unfortunately, that’s too late for any fireworks that get postponed by the rain, because fireworks are only permitted in Switzerland on July 31 and August 1.
