Summer is coming back to Switzerland at full speed! With the temperature already rising this week, next week will see scorching temperatures of up to 38 degrees in some parts of the country.
Highs of up to 38 degrees forecast for next week
The weather in Switzerland so far this summer has left a lot to be desired, but things are now starting to really turn around. Friday will see glorious sunshine and midsummer temperatures of around 30 degrees, Blick reports, and the good news is that this warm weather is sticking around for a while.
Next week the thermometer will climb even higher, with highs of between 30 and 34 degrees expected in most parts of German-speaking Switzerland, 32 to 34 degrees in the south, and as hot as 34 to 37 degrees in French-speaking Switzerland.
“Even 38 degrees celsius is possible. That would put us just a little below the all-time heat record,” meteorologist Roger Perret of Meteo News told Blick. The freezing point is also rising rapidly, from 4.600 metres on Friday to up to 5.000 metres on Sunday - another potential record, according to Perret.
Warm weather set to last for a while in Switzerland
The warmer weather looks set to stick around for a while, with Perret predicting that it will remain dry and hot until at least the middle of next week. Luckily, the nights will remain nicely cool.
Monday will see highs of between 28 degrees in the northeast and 35 degrees in the northwest. Meteo News is predicting highs of at least 30 degrees in most low-lying areas, including most major Swiss cities, for Tuesday and Wednesday; the temperature will then drop slightly on Thursday but still remain around a balmy 26 to 32 degrees.
