When the weather makes activities outside a cold and icy prospect, many head to escape rooms to test their mental mettle. Now, the latest awards from TERPECA have seen five escape rooms in Switzerland rank among the 100 best in the world.

Top Escape Rooms of 2024

To determine which escape rooms are the best, TERPECA used the in-depth reviews of 1.391 different contributors around the world. The reviewers tried 412.340 different rooms, of which 1.042 were nominated for awards. These were then whittled down further into a top 100.

For 2024, Le Cirque Magnifico from Escaparium in Laval, Canada, was chosen as the best escape room in the world. In the 150-minute-long room, groups of four to six players try to beat the puzzles and riddles offered by its circus-themed setting.

"With a breathtaking set, charming characters, fantastic puzzles and a story that still makes me a bit teary when I think about it, the only word that could possibly describe this game is magnificent," a reviewer quoted by TERPECA noted. Una Aventura de Leyenda by Mayto Kingdom in Spain, another escape room offered by Escaparium, The Forgotten Catherdral, and Molly’s Game by Down the Hatch in the Netherlands rounded out the top four.

Grand Trip Trap Hotel in Geneva home to Switzerland's top escape room

For Switzerland, The House of Uncle Cornelius at the Grand Trip Trap Hotel in Geneva was ranked as the best in the country and the 16th best in the world. In the room, available in English and French, Uncle Cornelius helps guests relive his travels and adventures in an experience that is as spectacularly immersive as it is cognitively challenging.

"The story unfolds like the pages of a beautifully crafted book—so thoughtfully designed that you’ll want to stay in this house forever," the TERPECA reviewer noted. What’s more, you won’t have to go far to experience the second best escape room in Switzerland: in 26th place worldwide was “Aunt Hilda’s Room” in the Trip Trap hotel, which has visitors go on a fairytale adventure with the mysterious character.
