Christkindlimarkt at Zurich Train Station
The Christkindlimarkt at Zurich Train Station is one of the biggest indoor Christmas markets in Europe. The inner concourse inside the station transforms into a Christmas wonderland, typically consisting of 140 stalls with rich aromas of mulled wine and cinnamon-infused baked goods!
The centrepiece is a remarkably tall Christmas tree that is decorated with over 6.000 Swarovski crystal decorations. Whether you’re a public transport passenger just passing through or whether you go there specially to see the market, you will not be disappointed.
Christmas market at Zurich Old Town (Weihnachtsmarkt Dörfli)
Zurich's oldest Christmas market is held every year in the Old Town. The Niederdorf quarter of the Old Town is also fondly known as Dörfli, and that’s why this Christmas market is called Weihnachtsmarkt Dörfli.
This picturesque part of Zurich welcomes all kinds of festive market stalls each year, from mulled wine and Swiss raclette stalls to Christmas decoration huts, spreading out from Niederdorfstrasse to Stüssihoffstatt, Rosenhof, Hirschenplatz and around the Grossmünster. You may also be lucky enough to get a glimpse of some local performances by alphorn players and fire jugglers.
Christmas Village (Weihnachtsdorf) at Sechseläutenplatz
This Christmas Village (Weihnachtsdorf) is the quintessential urban Christmas market that takes place near many Zurich landmarks on Sechseläutenplatz in Bellevue such as the Zurich Opera House. It lies not far from the shores of Lake Zurich, one of the most important lakes in Switzerland.
Around 120 stalls are assembled in the middle of the square and decorated elaborately, accompanied by an ice rink where you can go skating or partake in a game of Bavarian curling. There’s also a gorgeous old-fashioned carousel to keep the kids entertained.
The Singing Christmas Tree and Weihnachtsmärt at Werdmühleplatz
The most famous attraction of the market at Werdmühleplatz is arguably the Singing Christmas Tree. This massive podium in the shape of a Christmas tree is a multi-tiered concert stage, where costumed carol singers take their places on the different levels and sing their hearts out to the gobsmacked crowds! The festive singing and browsing of stalls will help you work up an appetite for visiting the fondue chalet or perhaps it will be time to get your hands on a warm cup of mulled wine!
Münsterhof Christmas Market
At Münsterhof Christmas Market, the motto is “From Zurich for Zurich” because you can find high-quality products from local businesses, most of which are made in Zurich itself. If you’re looking for a gift with a special connection to the local area, this is the market for you! You can also find workshops for all ages and concerts inside the cultural tents.
