Classic and vintage car racing in the heart of the Swiss Alps

"The world's most beautiful vintage racing competition."

For four days, many roads between St. Moritz and Poschiavo, all along the Bernina Pass, will be closed to normal traffic and instead filled with vintage cars, accompanied by enthusiastic spectators on the sidelines to cheer them on. The highlights are arguably the hill climbs in the Bernina Pass, a famous road linking Switzerland and Italy, which is known for its remarkably high elevation.

Cars from the 1920s to the 1980s scale the 5,7-kilometre route each year. Kicking off at St. Moritz, there are a total of six different runs on Saturday and Sunday: two are test runs and four are competitions. The starting elevation is 6.138 feet and the course climbs 1.500 feet, through 50 curves. For a few hours the morning after, the cars are typically on show at the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains, for the general public to marvel at.

About Bernina Gran Turismo

This event was set up by car enthusiasts from the Engadine region of Switzerland, inspired by the 1929 International St. Moritz Automobile Week. After all, St. Moritz is steeped in automotive history!

Unfortunately, in 1960, circuit racing was banned in Switzerland and therefore the event had to be scrapped. It was only in very recent years that the race was reinstated, thanks to a collaboration between ardent motoring enthusiasts. The event has since been nominated for a Historic Motoring Award.
