Basel History Days
Explore the long and interesting history of Basel during the first-ever Basel History Days. Over 40 institutions in the city are participating, with more than 70 events culminating in a festival on Barfüsserplatz.
Basel History Days: Fire and Flame
The theme for the first Basel History Days is “Fire and Flame”. From museum exhibitions and guided tours to workshops and lectures, there is a lot to learn about the fiery past of Basel. In honour of this history, more than 40 institutions such as the Basel Fire Department Museum, the Pharmacy Museum of the University of Basel, Basel Tourism and the cantonal library of Basel, all offer events to get residents excited about the city.
Attend workshops on how to make your own medicines and oil lamps, or visit lectures on how fires were extinguished in the past and how the Swiss canton of Basel-Stadt was founded. Listen to stories told by expert Leander High or take part in a pub quiz on the history of Basel. Visitors to the Basel History Days can go to these events and more with just one ticket!
The Basel History Days also provide the opportunity for fun family outings with various events aimed at children, young people and families. Detailed age descriptions can be found in the online programme.
Celebration of Basel’s history
