Rawilstrasse 3, 3775, Lenk im Simmental,

Need a reason to go outside in this cold weather? Watching dozens of dogs prancing through the snow will do it! The 44th International Sled Dog Race at Lenk is taking place on February 8-9 so drag your family along for a fun winter outing!

Watch sled dog races in Switzerland

Sled dogs are one of the oldest working dogs in the world and in the winter, you get to marvel at the beauty and elegance of the dogs in the snow. Even though dog sledding is a fringe sport in Switzerland, watching a dog sled race is very entertaining.

Teams of two to eight dogs from all over the world participate on a snowy trail led by their mushers and dog handlers. From the dogs’ excited howling and barking before the race to their power and drive during their runs, it’s magical to see sled dogs in their element. Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyeds and other dog breeds create a haven for dog lovers at this event in Canton Bern.

More fun for spectators

At the finish line, there are stalls where you can find all kinds of accessories for dog sports and recreation. There is also food and drinks to warm your bellies while you walk around.

If you’re an animal lover, you’ll be happy to hear that you can even meet your dog-sledding hero! With the handler’s permission, you can give the dogs a pat on the head and tell them how brilliant they are! You could even learn more about the sport from the sled dog driver.

Plan your outing

Are you raring to go? Check out the International Sled Dog Race Lenk event page for more information about the race. Don’t forget to dress warmly as the event is outdoors.
