About Elisabeth - The Musical

Elisabeth - The Musical premiered in Vienna in 1992. It has since become one of the most internationally renowned musicals in the German language. The musical tells the biographical story of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth, also known as Sissi, and explores her life and struggles. 

The story surrounds Elisabeth's growing thoughts about death, and conveyed by the fact that one of the main characters is Death himself, along with Luigi Lucheni, Franz Joseph and Elisabeth's domineering mother-in-law Archduchesse Sophie.

Not only has this musical reached over 12 million people in 14 countries and been translated into over 10 languages, but the musical is specially noted for a recent version - the Viennese open-air production of Elisabeth in the Ehrenhof of Schönbrunn Palace. This production has wowed over 100,000 visitors to date.
