With the school holidays in full swing and people jetting off for holidays abroad, summer is typically the busiest time of year for Swiss airports. But this July has seen passenger numbers swell to new heights at Zurich Airport, which has reported having its busiest month of all time.
July 2025 was busiest month in Zurich Airport’s history
In July 2025, 3.256.328 passengers passed through Zurich Airport, according to the official press release. That’s an increase of 4,8 percent compared to last year and the highest number ever recorded. The previous record was set in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic froze worldwide flight traffic.
That’s not the only record that was broken: the airport also recorded its highest-ever number of passengers on a single day on July 28, Blick reports, with 115.547 passengers. The previous record of just over 115.000 passengers was also set in 2019.
Zurich Airport expects to set new passenger record this year
The airport said that it had seen passenger numbers rise every month so far this year. Back in March, Zurich Airport CEO Lukas Brosi said that he expected the 2019 annual passenger number record to be broken this year
In total, there were 25.264 takeoffs and landings, an increase of 2,6 percent compared to last year, and 37.501 tons of freight were transported through the airport during July.
