Snow expected in the mountains could reach Swiss cities by the weekend
Following a relatively mild and dry start to February, the weather is set to get colder again towards the end of this week. Heavy snow is expected in the mountains during the week and could reach the lowlands by the weekend.

Aside from a dusting of snow at the beginning of January, 2026 has been relatively mild and dry so far. There has even been around 60 percent less snow this year compared to the usual amount, according to Blue News.
This could change during the week beginning February 9, as the weather in Switzerland is expected to return to lower temperatures in some areas and potentially bring snow to some Swiss cities.
From Tuesday evening, wind and rain are forecast to hit much of Switzerland. Temperatures will range from between -2 and 9 degrees celsius and the rain could last through to the weekend. Heavy snowfall is expected in the Swiss mountains, particularly in the Lower Valais region. Just in time for families and schoolchildren who might be off skiing during Sportferien.
Swiss cities could get snow this weekend
By Saturday, temperatures will remain low between 2 and 9 degrees. Snow will continue in the Alps and “snow flurries are possible in the lowlands”, according to SRF Meteo. Fasnacht celebrations may take a cold, snowy and wet turn!
The snow line will start off at between 1.100 and 1.700 metres but will drop to between 800 and 400 metres by Saturday, reports Nau. Sunday will also be slightly colder and next week is expected to be relatively windy and changeable again.
