Netflix has announced another price increase for its subscriptions in Switzerland. The updated prices will apply immediately for new customers, while existing subscribers will see the change in their next bill.
Netflix subscriptions in Switzerland now cost 2 francs more per month
Effective immediately, Netflix is increasing the cost of all three of its subscription tiers in Switzerland by two francs per month. The cost of the basic (with ads) subscription is rising to 14,90 Swiss francs per month, while standard customers will now pay 22,90 per month and premium users 29,90.
New customers are already being charged the new prices, while existing subscribers will start to pay more over the next couple of months, depending on their billing cycle. According to SRF, Netflix will notify subscribers about the change via email roughly one month before their next renewal date.
Why Netflix is raising prices
This is the second time in two years that the streaming giant has increased its prices in Switzerland, with the last increase coming in April 2024. In a statement, Netflix said that the increase was to “increase the value we offer to our members”.
Undoubtedly, the new Film Promotion Law - dubbed the “Netflix law” - that came into effect last year in Switzerland has also had an impact on the company’s operations. The new regulation requires all streaming services operating in Switzerland to invest at least 4 percent of their takings in the alpine nation into local Swiss films and TV shows. The law brought in an estimated 30 million Swiss francs in 2024, SRF reports.
A Comparitech study from earlier this year found that Netflix Switzerland offered some of the worst value for money compared to other countries around the world, taking into account its monthly subscription price and the number of titles offered in its Swiss library.
