Migros warns of fake free gift phishing scam in Switzerland

Swiss supermarket Migros has issued an online safety warning, encouraging customers to be extra careful of a new phishing scam targeting shoppers and offering free gifts.

Switzerland’s most popular supermarket in 2026 has become the target of a new cybercrime in Switzerland. The activity was brought to light on August 9 when a LinkedIn user asked Migros why they had to pay for shipping to receive a gift from the company. It is “pretty embarrassing,” said the user, according to Blick.

As it turned out, however, the Migros brand was being misused to offer customers free gifts. To receive the item, “users are asked to enter credit card or other personal payment information.”

Check with Migros when in doubt

The orange-branded supermarket has since warned other shoppers to take extra care when offered gifts by Migros and asked to enter any bank details. 

Migros spokesperson Prisca Huguenin-dit-Lenoir explained that “our brand is being misused here to create trust” and that they “regret” that criminals are using Migros this way.

"If in doubt, we recommend verifying offers through official Migros channels," confirmed Huguenin-dit-Lenoir. "We take such reports seriously and have each reported case reviewed by our specialist departments."
