Lausanne Christmas Market, known as Bô Noël, is one of the most beautiful Christmas events in Canton Vaud, overlooking one of the famous Swiss lakes, Lake Geneva. With the poetic mountains off in the distance, the market is a popular one with expats, locals and tourists alike.

Stalls, chalets and entertainment in downtown Lausanne

Lausanne Christmas Market takes place in the scenic city streets of Lausanne, with its characteristic historic buildings, giving it a special atmosphere at this festive time of year. The city of Lausanne lights up with illuminated Christmas trees, a 30-metre Ferris wheel, nativity scenes and life-size models of Santa Claus in his sleigh full of presents.

Enjoy a crisp winter’s day strolling and browsing around the Christmas stalls at the main market at Place Saint-François and buy some nifty gifts at the handcraft market on Place Pépinet. Both markets are open daily throughout, except, of course, on Christmas Day.

When you get hungry, it’ll be high time to hit the food stalls! They are such a welcome part of the market, with churros, roast chestnuts and other takeaway treats, along with Glühwein and local Swiss specialities like cheese or even some local chocolate. Get warm inside the Vaudois Igloo, which offers platters from local food producers in Canton Vaud.

Fun events for kids

People of all ages will find things to do and see at several locations all over the city of Lausanne, with both indoor and outdoor elements to the event. There are even performances and workshops for kids, as well as a petting zoo featuring animals found in a typical nativity scene. The little ones can even get their picture taken with Santa Claus. What a great way to spend the holidays!

Attending Lausanne Christmas Market

The market takes place daily from 11am until 8.30pm from November 21 right up until December 31, with the exception of Christmas Day. Check out the Bo Noel Lausanne website for more information.
