The Neujahrsmarathon (New Year's Marathon) in Zurich is an adrenaline-fuelled way to welcome the new year. Runners start at midnight and make their way through the outskirts of the city on a picturesque course along the banks of the Limmat River.

About Neujahrsmarathon Zurich

Neujahrsmarathon Zurich is held annually on New Year's Eve / Day and attracts runners from over 50 countries around the world. Every year, more than 35.000 people participate in this unique running race.

Numerous different running events are usually scheduled: the full marathon - which starts at midnight on New Year's Eve / Day - the half marathon, the quarter marathon and the relay race. There's also a kids' race that starts at 10pm on New Year's Eve. 

The marathon route leads runners past tranquil locations in the lesser-known parts of the city. However, the route is not illuminated, so runners are recommended to wear high-visibility clothing and headlamps.

All race categories in the Neujahrsmarathon Zurich are verified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), making Neujahrsmarathon Zurich one of just seven official Swiss marathons recognised by the AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). The other Swiss marathons with this status are the Lausanne Marathon, Zurich Marathon, Zermatt Marathon, Swiss Alpine Marathon, Jungfrau Marathon and the Swiss City Marathon.
