The Lucerne Transport Association (VVL) and the Lucerne Transport Authority (VBL) have announced several changes to bus routes in Lucerne, which will be implemented by 2027. The planned changes will be open for public consultation starting in 2026.
9 new bus routes coming to Lucerne
Visitors, people working in Switzerland and residents of Lucerne may want to familiarise themselves with a number of changes to the city’s bus routes, set to take place by 2027. Transport companies VVL and VBL shared details of the changes in a recent press release.
New bus routes will provide more direct connections to Lucerne Cantonal Hospital, Seetalplatz in Emmen, the Swiss Museum of Transport (Verkehrshaus), Littau train station, Allmend/Messe, Meggen and Horw.
There will be nine new bus routes in the city. These are:
- Line 3: Littau, Luzern Bahnhof, Verkehrshaus, Büttenenhalde
- Line 4: Gasshof, Luzern Bahnhof, Verkehrshaus, Würzenbach
- Line 5: Hubelmatt, Luzern Bahnhof, Maihof
- Line 6: Matthof, Luzern Bahnhof, Verkehrshaus, Büttenenhalde
- Line 8: Hirtenhof, Luzern Bahnhof, Kantonsspital, Friedental
- Line 9: Matthof, Luzern Bahnhof, Kantonsspital, Littau Bahnhof
- Line 20: Ennethorw, Horw, Luzern Bahnhof, Meggen Tschädigen
- Line 21: Emmenbrücke Bahnhof Süd, Kantonsspital, Ebikon Bahnhof
- Line 33: Adligenswil Widspüel, Luzern Bahnhof, Kriens Busschleife
New bus routes should reduce number of connections
The transport companies hope the changes will improve public transport in the city and reduce the number of times passengers have to change. Restructuring and adding new bus stops around the train station should also reduce traffic in the area.
The planned changes address a need to accommodate new neighbourhoods, growing suburbs and additional workplace offices throughout the city. You can find a detailed list of all the planned changes and new bus routes on the VVL website.
