 The Position

  • Provides thought leadership in nutrition and health, specifically for HMOs and their applications in nutrition and health in infants and across the lifespan. 
  • Leads STA activities to scientifically substantiate the safety, nutritional suitability, and health benefits of HMOs and other ingredients in the DSM portfolio (e.g. micronutrients, lipids, other bioactive ingredients).  substantiation and storytelling to support business and regulatory objectives.
  • Develops scientific substantiation for messaging and claims using an evidence grading approach. 
  • Engage with scientific experts and thought leaders to obtain guidance, endorsement, and advocacy for DSM nutritional solutions
  • Works on cross-functional teams (R&D, Innovation, Regulatory, Marketing, Communications) to drive strategic imperatives for HMOs in the ELN and other business segments (e.g. dietary supplements, medical nutrition, etc.)
  • Advises on opportunities to further develop the scientific evidence base to provide new business opportunities via new ingredients/solutions, health benefits, messaging, and claims.
  • Creates nutrition science and communication strategies to support market development and sales of HMOs and other ingredients.  Develops materials for adaptation by regional STA leads to assist in translation of science for local business development and issues management.  Implements strategies through interactions with STA leads, marketing managers, sales representatives and customers.
  • Conducts horizon scanning and tracking of emerging issues at the global level to raise awareness among regional STA leads and regional marketing and sales teams and crafts communications for global distribution.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with thought leaders, potential partners and collaborators in the academic, non-profit, and corporate sectors.
  • Tracks and manages scientific literature to deliver critical information to project teams and to stay current on scientific development and business opportunities.
  • Organizes and implements symposia at professional meetings to educate and enhance awareness of the health benefits of DSM ingredients and solutions.
  • Ensures scientific accuracy and quality of internal and external communications including social media, PR and trade releases, position papers, presentations to customers and presentations at professional meetings

 The Ideal

  • Master’s Degree or PhD or equivalent postgraduate degree in Nutrition Science or related area
  • Ideally 5 -10 years’ experience, including leadership and science advocacy, preferably in industry
  • Expertise in HMOs, early life nutrition, experimental design, statistics would be advantageous
  • Must have demonstrated ability to leverage scientific kledge to achieve business goals; proven ability to analyze and interpret scientific evidence in human nutrition, and apply evidence grading frameworks for marketing claim substantiation
  • Excellent in-person and virtual communication skills; oral and written
  • Working kledge of the R&D process and project management
  • Kledge of regulatory, legal, marketing and business environments and experience navigating challenging regulatory and legal environments in different regions
  • Willingness to travel, including internationally
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage several projects simultaneously
