About this role

Salary: CHF 80’000 - 90’000 per year

Requirements:

• Proven experience in software engineering and technical leadership roles.
• Deep knowledge of software architecture patterns (microservices, DDD, event-driven, etc.).
• Solid background in Java/Kotlin, ideally with Spring Boot.
• Familiarity with frontend ecosystems and modern JS frameworks is a plus.
• Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong communication skills – you can talk tech with engineers and add value with business stakeholders.
• Proactive, structured, and curious – with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Fluency in Italian and English.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design of software architectures and define technical direction on strategic projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients to understand business needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Evaluate trade-offs and constraints to identify scalable, secure, and maintainable designs.
• Guide engineering teams through technical leadership, mentorship, and code/design reviews.
• Ensure quality standards through best practices, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to internal culture through blog posts, tech talks, and design workshops.

About the role
WellD is looking for a Staff Engineer to join its internal development team in Lugano. In this role, you will help design technical architectures, guide development teams, and work closely with business stakeholders to shape high-impact digital solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring the technical excellence of our projects, mentoring team members, and bridging business needs with engineering execution.
