The 10 most in-demand jobs in Switzerland revealed

By Jan de Boer
Feb 26, 2025

With the shortage of staff in Switzerland continuing unabated, a new study from job platform Indeed has found the jobs that are most in-demand as we venture deeper into 2025. They found that technical and highly qualified professionals are still highly sought after among employers.

Switzerland still beset with worker shortages

Despite a slight easing of the worker shortage in 2024, companies in Switzerland still struggle to find new workers. A study conducted by the Manpower Group last September found the 76 percent of companies find it “difficult” or “very difficult” to secure new employees.

As a result, the study noted that companies are offering higher salaries and more flexible working hours to attract more applicants. However, official forecasts suggest that the issue is only expected to worsen - the Swiss Employers’ Association predicts the country will be short of 460.000 workers by 2035.

Which jobs are in most demand?

To find out which jobs in Switzerland are in the highest demand, Blick and job platform Indeed used its database to track which roles have seen the biggest increase in listings between 2021 and 2024. This was then whittled down to 25 professions which are known to have a median salary of at least 80.000 francs a year.

Interestingly, many of the most in-demand roles are for skilled labourers, though more tech-heavy and specialised positions are still highly sought-after. Here's what they found:

Electrical engineers the most sought-after workers in Switzerland

According to Indeed, the most in-demand job in Switzerland is electrical engineer or technician, with listings for the role having increased a whopping 710 percent between 2021 and 2024. The top three were rounded out by plant engineers (+362 percent) and tax advisors (+88 percent).

Speaking to Blick, Indeed Switzerland manager Thomas Kaiser said that the “massive increase” in listings was striking. "This demand not only reflects the ongoing shortage of skilled workers, but also the increasing importance of jobs in the energy and technology sectors. Especially in times of energy transition and advancing digitalisation," he noted.

In all, here are the most in-demand jobs in Switzerland, according to Indeed:

  1. Electrical technician / engineer
  2. Plant engineer
  3. Tax advisor
  4. IT consultant
  5. Production planner
  6. Electrician
  7. Workshop supervisor
  8. Automation technician
  9. ICT systems administrator
  10. Human resources consultant

While they placed first, electrical technicians can expect to earn comparatively low salaries, with an estimated median wage of 92.500 francs a year. Though they did not rank in the top 10 for demand, managers in the financial sector are the best paid of the 25 in-demand roles, with median salaries of 129.590 francs a year.
