Those wishing for the arrival of bright sunshine and spring temperatures are in luck, as Switzerland is set to bathe in warm and sunny conditions over the next few days. The weather will heat up quickly, with highs of 20 degrees celsius expected by the end of the week.

Hot and sunny weather arrives in Switzerland just in time for spring

According to MeteoNews, the first significant batch of warm spring-like conditions is starting to arrive in Switzerland. From Wednesday to Saturday, “temperatures will rise significantly day after day". However, in a warning to gardeners nationwide, it will still be very chilly at night, with frost possible on Wednesday morning.

"In keeping with the calendar's start of spring on Thursday, the sun is shining everywhere," meteorologist Roger Perret noted, adding that blue skies will be the norm for most of the week. Swiss cities will be treated to temperatures of between 16 and 18 degrees celsius by the end of Thursday.

On Friday, a warm foehn is set to shoot the mercury skyward, with highs of up to 20 degrees celsius forecast. Though it will prove to be a great day for a hike in the mountains or a drink outside, the day could also see the arrival of a wave of Saharan dust, which may make conditions more cloudy.

Highs of 20 degrees forecast for Swiss cities

Luckily for those workers clocking off on Friday, Saturday is also expected to treat us to warm temperatures and scattered sunshine. The hottest conditions are forecast in Zurich and Basel, with highs of 19 and 20 degrees respectively.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end eventually: on Sunday, the sunshine will be replaced with scattered showers, with cities cooling to between 9 and 15 degrees. The heaviest rain is expected in western Switzerland and Ticino.
