The biggest supermoon of 2025 will light the skies over Switzerland on Wednesday, November 5. The moon will be closer to the Earth than usual and will shine particularly bright.

Supermoon forecast for November 5, 2025

After the sun sets at around 4.30pm in Switzerland, you may want to take a peek outside to see the second supermoon of the year, also called the Beaver Moon, appear in the sky.

The moon orbits the Earth in an oval-like shape, rather than a perfect circle. During the moon’s 27-day orbit, the distance between the moon and the Earth varies. When a full moon coincides with the moon's perigee, the point in its orbit when it is closest to Earth, we get a supermoon. November’s supermoon will be about 357.000 kilometres from Earth, according to 20 Minuten.

Supermoons happen three or four times per year, and when they do, they can appear around 14 percent bigger than the average full moon and 30 percent brighter, according to NASA.

How to see the supermoon from Switzerland

The moon will rise in Switzerland between 5.30pm and 6.15pm, and it will reach its maximum brightness at around 10.18pm. “The supermoon is particularly impressive in the first few minutes after rising, when it is close to the horizon and appears especially large,” reports 20 Minuten.

According to MeteoSwiss, morning fog is expected to clear by the afternoon, with some possibilities of clouds remaining. For the best view, avoid areas with lots of light pollution and find a spot with an expansive view of the sky.

Wrap up warm and bring the binoculars! If the weather doesn’t cooperate, don’t worry, the next forecasted supermoon will appear on December 4, 2025.
