The latest Guest Awards by Lunchgate has named a restaurant in Graubünden as the best in Switzerland for 2024. A total of six eateries from across Swiss cities and cantons earned the awards’ fabled five stars this year.

Stiva Veglia in Graubünden named the best restaurant in Switzerland

The Stiva Veglia in Schnaus Canton Graubünden has been ranked as the best in Switzerland at the latest Guest Awards by booking platform Lunchgate, improving on their second-place performance from last year. To win the award, the restaurant has to be among the few Swiss restaurants with an average rating of 4,5 stars out of five or higher, as rated by guests who used the Foratable app - that way reviewers are known to have dined at the establishment.

Stiva Veglia faced some stiff competition this year, with six other restaurants earning a full five out of five-star rating. What’s more, the rest of the restaurants in the top 50 were all rated 4,9 stars out of five.

Speaking to 20 Minuten, head chef Tino Zimmermann said that the award “is a confirmation and an honour for the daily work of our team. It's nice that people take the time to give us such an assessment." When asked why he thought the restaurant was so loved, the chef noted that local dishes and freshly baked bread are some of the most common sources of praise.

Appenzell restaurant features in top three for the first time

For the first time in the awards’ history, a restaurant from Appenzell found itself in the podium places, with the Gasthof Bären in Schlatt, Appenzell Innerrhoden taking second place. The restaurant was given big praise for the stunning views of the mountains from their outdoor tables, which are situated underneath a 100-year-old Linden tree.

Last year’s winner Bluemä, in Uznach, St. Gallen, won third place for 2024, mainly thanks to its fine blend of fresh regional food. "Whether it's meat, vegetables or wine, it has to taste good," the restaurant writes on its website. The two hosts, Caroline and Michael Rohrer, are also highly rated for their friendliness and hospitality.
