Looking to plan a luxury holiday in Switzerland? The latest ranking Institute for Service Excellence has revealed which Swiss business and leisure hotels are in a class of their own in 2025:
To create “The 101 Best” ranking, the Institute for Service Excellence analysed the reviews of guests on popular platforms like Tripadvisor and Booking.com, alongside professional reviews from Forbes, GaultMillau and Hornstein.
In addition, the institute also sent its own experts to stay in each hotel anonymously, who then provided their own feedback. The final results were divided into two top 10s, one for business hotels and one for leisure.
For leisure, The Alpina Gstaad was ranked as the best hotel in Switzerland for 2025. The hotel was given especially high praise for its small size, “exquisite art collection”, location, spa and Michelin-starred restaurant. “A special hideaway in the Swiss mountains. Here, guests will find comfort, privacy, art, and tradition combined in perfect harmony,” the ranking wrote.

The Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, the site of one of the largest Ukraine peace conferences to date and the best hotel spa in the world, took second place. Along with its award-winning wellness facilities, the hotel was also praised for its immaculately appointed rooms and extensive leisure activities.
The stunning Park Hotel Vitznau on Lake Lucerne completed the podium for leisure hotels. The over 100-year-old guest house is again well-regarded for its restaurant, location and wine cellar. which apparently contains over 35.000 bottles of wine worth a total of 21 million francs.
For the sharply dressed entrepreneur or business magnate, the Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich took the top prize for the best business hotel in Switzerland. Like a fairy-tale castle atop the Zurichberg, the Dolder was also named the Hotel of the Year for 2025.
First opened in 1899, the Dolder Grand is still going strong thanks to its comfortable and luxurious rooms, iconic architecture, good amenities and second-to-none dining options. “The Dolder Grand is more than just a hotel. It's a destination in its own right,” Dolder general manager Markus Granelli wrote in the ranking.

Joining the Dolder Grand as something that is as much a Zurich landmark as it is a great hotel is the Baur au Lac, which took second place this year. The ranking described the hotel, open since 1844, as the perfect fusion of chic and traditional located right in the heart of the Swiss metropolis.
The recently renovated Mandarin Oriental Savoy on the Paradeplatz in Zurich completed the podium. “Guests can expect an enchanting ambience, exquisite décor, and timeless charm, where understated luxury meets Mandarin Oriental's legendary service,” the ranking mused.
