Switzerland home to the world's best hotel spa, 2024 awards reveal

Fans of steam baths and massages take note: Switzerland has been named the best spa destination in Europe for 2024, according to the latest World Spa Awards. One resort in the mountains above Lucerne also won the accolade of the best spa hotel in the world.
Switzerland is Europe's premier spa destination
In the 10th iteration of the awards, Switzerland was named Europe’s Best Spa Destination for 2024. Swiss spas beat out those in Austria, Germany, England, Spain and Croatia to take the regional title, though lost out to Dubai in the global race.
A sister event to the World Travel Awards, the World Spa Awards seeks to showcase the very best spa facilities on the planet, offering gongs for anything from the best spa resorts and wellness retreats to the best wellness apps and medical spas.
Bürgenstock offers the best hotel spa on Earth
For 2024, the Bürgenstock Hotel & Alpine Spa was crowned as having the best hotel spa in the whole world, beating out star-studded hotels from Thailand, Dubai and South Africa to take the top title. The Dolder Grand in Zurich was also rated as having the best day spa in Europe.
Though more famous among non-spa fans as the venue for the recent Swiss-hosted Ukraine peace conference, the Bürgenstock offers everything you need to feel pampered and relaxed. The 10.000 square-metre site sports saunas, relaxation rooms and five pools, practically all of which provide stunning views over the nearby mountains and lake.
A myriad of treatments are also available at the spa, ranging from skincare to massages and hydrotherapy. “There is something for everyone at the Alpine Spa,” the hotel promises.

What are the best spas in Switzerland
In terms of other accolades, the Six Senses Spa in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana was rated as the best resort spa in Switzerland, Clinique La Prarie in Montreux, Canton Vaud was the best wellness retreat, while the aforementioned Dolder Grand sports the best day spa.
