A new survey published by moneyland.ch has found out which Swiss cantons are the friendliest - and which cantons are not-so-warm.
The survey, which was undertaken by the Swiss financial comparison website moneyland.ch, asked 1.500 people about their opinions on how friendly they believe each Swiss canton is, and targeted people from both French- and German-speaking parts of Switzerland.
The participants were interviewed on how friendly they see each region, and their answers were aggregated into a score out of 10 - with 10 being the friendliest a canton can be. Overall, young people found Switzerland to be less friendly than older respondents, who were less stingy when it came to awarding points.
Interestingly, the survey found that participants from German-speaking regions rated the French-speaking cantons lower than cantons that spoke their language, and vice versa for the French cantons.
The survey found that Ticino, Switzerland’s southernmost canton, is perceived as the friendliest, with a score of 7,4 points out of a possible 10. The region was especially well-favoured by survey respondents between the ages of 50 and 74, who gave the canton an average score of 7,8 points.
Shortly behind Ticino is Canton Graubünden, with an average score of 7,3. The survey found that younger people prefer Graubünden and Lucerne, with both scoring highly with respondents in the 18 to 25 age bracket.
By contrast, the survey found the least friendly canton to be Canton Geneva, which scored a meagre 5,8 points. Native Genevans seemed to agree with the general consensus too, since they did not rank themselves as especially friendly, instead preferring the cantons of Neuchâtel, Ticino and Valais.
