Swiss Post breaks its record for parcels delivered in a day

As people across Switzerland indulged in the festive season and gleefully opened their presents, the local postal service was toasting a new achievement. As part of sending over 22 million packages between Black Friday and Christmas, Swiss Post broke its record for parcels processed in a day.

Swiss Post breaks records for parcel deliveries in a day

In a statement, Swiss Post confirmed that after two years of falling numbers, deliveries are now back on the rise. Between November 29 and December 24 2024, the company delivered a whopping 22,3 million packages to addresses in Swiss cantons and abroad, 3,5 percent more than in 2023.

The peak of the surge was felt on December 3. On the day, the Swiss Post workforce processed 1,3 million parcels, "a figure never before reached in a single day", the company noted. Despite the high workload, thanks to the effort of workers, there was no spike in delayed or misplaced deliveries.

"I am impressed and proud of all the employees who have worked tirelessly to handle this enormous volume of mail so that it gets under the Christmas tree on time. A big thank you from the bottom of my heart!" wrote Swiss Post CEO Roberto Cirillo.

500.000 parcel spike in deliveries during Black Friday 2024

Alongside the traditional rush of people sending their presents off in time for Christmas, the company found that the discounts and deals of Black Friday also caused delivery numbers to spike - though it may also have to do with how close the discount period was to Christmas itself in 2024.

Between Black Friday on November 29 and Cyber Monday on December 2, Swiss Post processed 7,5 million parcels, 500.000 more than during the discount weekend in 2023.
