Swiss Post confirms letter price hikes starting in 2027

The Swiss postal service has announced that the price of posting mail in Switzerland will rise from January 1, 2027.

New rates for A Mail and B Mail letters

At the turn of the new year, the standard postage rates for domestic letters will increase. Sending an A Mail letter, delivered the next working day, will cost 1,40 Swiss francs (up 20 rappen). Posting a B Mail letter, delivered within three working days, will cost 1,10 Swiss francs (up 10 rappen). 

Sending letters via A Mail Plus, which is tracked and ensures next-day delivery even on Saturdays, is also set to rise by 20 rappen. You can view the full details in Swiss Post's official summary of price changes (in German). 

The new rates were agreed between the Swiss postal service and the price supervisor (Preisüberwacher) and are set to remain in place until the end of 2029.

Why are Swiss Post postage prices going up?

Swiss Post explained that fewer people are sending letters these days thanks to digital alternatives. In the past 20 years, the number of letters sent in Switzerland has reduced by almost 50 percent, and continues to drop a further 5 percent each year. For Swiss Post, this meant 85 million Swiss francs less in revenue in 2025.

The increase in the cost of sending a letter in Switzerland, therefore, is needed “despite consistent efficiency and cost-cutting measures” to “ensure a financially sustainable basic service.”
