Google Maps introduces new feature for public transport users in Switzerland
Google Maps has introduced a new feature in Switzerland that might come in useful for people who regularly use public transport during busy periods.
New Google Maps feature tells travellers where to board trains
The Google Maps app now shows users which entrances and exits to use at the station and where to board the train - front, middle, or back - to change trains as quickly as possible or leave the station quickly.
The new information is displayed directly in the journey overview interface and should help passengers travelling at busy times, such as rush hour, have smoother journeys.
New feature currently only available for Zurich S-Bahn trains
As Watson reports, the new feature is currently only available on certain train connections in Switzerland - specifically, S-Bahn journeys in Zurich that go through specific stations - meaning that it has quite a way to go until it becomes a real competitor to local apps like SBB.
Google spokesperson Samuel Leiser told Watson there were currently no concrete plans to expand the feature to other regions, but it could potentially be activated for long-distance trains as well.
