About this role

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall support OHCHR in promoting and protecting the human rights of people on the move, and in advancing a human rights-based approach to migration governance. Daily responsibilities will depend on the Unit's priorities and the individual's qualifications and competencies. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Researching and analyzing migration and human rights issues, including thematic, regional and policy developments relating to migration and human rights.
Drafting and summarizing reports, briefing notes, background papers, talking points, meeting notes and other substantive materials.
Supporting the preparation of OHCHR inputs to migration-related processes, including Human Rights Council, General Assembly and Global Compact for Migration activities.
Preparing for and servicing meetings, consultations, workshops and events, including preparation of documentation and drafting of notes and reports.
Contributing to communication, advocacy, outreach related to migration and human rights.
Assisting with web content, information management and other knowledge-sharing activities.
Performing other related duties as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in Law, International relations, Political Science, Development or related subject (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in Law, International relations, Political Science, Development or related subject (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Knowledge in the field of migration and human rights is desirable. Applicants should have a good capacity to collect, synthesize and analyze information from various sources and to draft documents in a clear and concise manner. Applicants are required to have excellent organizational and coordination skills to manage a heavy workload and meet tight deadlines.
