About this role

The position is at the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Office of the Director, and the overall supervision of the Director, the intern will perform the following functions:

  • Assist in the organization of the 2026 World Investment Forum (WIF), to be held in October 2026 in Qatar, and other upcoming meetings conferences and workshops, through the preparation of pre- and post-meeting documentation; liaising with participants, consolidate and update databases of stakeholders, scheduling and other duties as required.
  • Assists in background research for the drafting of speaking notes, speeches, articles, formal correspondence and other materials on various issues related to investment for development, sustainable finance and the development of the private sector.
  • Assists in maintaing databases, develop and manage user surveys and other performance-management tools.
  • Assists in preparing first drafts of analytical studies on investment and enterprise for development issues and policies.
  • Assists in the the monitoring, backstopping and assessing the implementation of programmes and projects, including in the area of investment for development, sustainable finance and the development of the private sector, and investment and gender.
  • Other duties as required.

Interns shall observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures, and directives of the Organization, respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN, and maintain confidentiality regarding non-public information.

Qualifications and Special Skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).

Additionally, interns should be computer literate, have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs. Studies in areas such as economics, international economics, development, public policy or international relations are required.

Languages

Fluency spoken and written in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian) is an asset.
