About this role

The International Trade Centre is the joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, which provides technical assistance and capacity building to policymakers, the private sector and trade and investment support organisations to help them use trade as an engine for sustainable growth and employment generation. ITC works to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by connecting micro, small and medium enterprises to global value chains. By enabling small business export success in developing countries, ITC helps generate sustainable incomes and livelihoods, especially for women and youth, while taking into consideration sustainable elements such as the environment and social responsibility. As part of the Belt and Road initiative, China has organized the CIIE annually since 2018. It aims to promote trade, investment and business partnerships between China and other developing countries. As the most significant import fair, CIIE represents a unique platform for MSMEs from developing countries and LDCs to explore the Chinese market and initiate business contacts with Chinese buyers. ITC has been an “Official Sponsor” of CIIE since 2019. It contributed to the Hongqiao International Economic Forum and organized the participation of 500 SMEs from more than 40 developing countries, especially LDCs, in CIIE in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. As a result, companies established new business contacts and concluded USD 65 million worth of new exports to China. ITC will continue supporting MSMEs from all developing countries to attend the fourth CIIE edition to be held in November 2026.
