Centovalli Railway named one of NYT’s best autumn trips
The New York Times has selected the Centovalli Railway as one of its picks for the best autumn train trips in Europe to access the content’s “most magical landscapes”.
Covering a distance of around 50 kilometres, the Vignezzina-Centovalli Railway connects Locarno in the Swiss canton of Ticino to Domodossola in Italy. The route is popularly known as the “Treno del Foliage” (autumn foliage train) for the spectacular views it offers of wild chestnut forests in golden bloom as it passes over 83 bridges and viaducts through the region of “one hundred valleys”.
Swiss-Italian railway line has a strong international reputation
Matteo Corti, General Director of SSIF, which operates the Italian section of the railway line, described the article as “further confirmation of the quality of our service… that consolidates the international reputation of the railway line”, Blick reports.
Tickets for the train journey can be bought online at a cost of 30 euros per adult, plus an additional supplement to reserve a seat in the panoramic train car that affords the best view of the landscape.
