As the winter season and holidays approach, many families and individuals in Switzerland will be planning their next big getaway. To help travellers reach their destinations, several airlines have announced new and expanded services to and from Swiss airports. Here’s what you can expect from Zurich Airport this season.

What new flights are coming to Zurich Airport this winter?

In a statement, the airport wrote that from the winter flight schedule starting on October 27, travellers will be able to fly directly to 169 destinations with 53 different airlines from Zurich. Alongside offering more regular flights to top travel destinations, the season will also see several new routes open up.

First, from December 18 travel airline Edelweiss will expand its network to include direct flights between Zurich and Sphinx International Airport in Cairo, Egypt. Along with the regular services to Cairo’s main airport, the twice-weekly flight to Giza will deposit holidaymakers right next to the Pyramids and the recently opened Grand Egyptian Museum.

By the end of February, Edelweiss will also be flying twice a week to the Omani capital Muscat, and then on to the popular beach resort of Salalah. What’s more, thanks to its new winter season flight to Tunis, the capital of Tunisia will be served year-round from Zurich - Tunisiair runs the route during the summer.

Edelweiss will also offer new flights to the Nordic region, namely the Finnish airports of Kittilä and Rovaniemi. It will also be expanding and extending a number of routes heading to and from the Mediterranean.

This winter season will also see the arrival of new flights from easyJet. Competing with SWISS on both routes, this winter the budget airline will run direct services between the Swiss metropolis, the northern English hub of Manchester and the French city of Bordeaux.

International airlines expand services to and from Switzerland

Along with the new routes, several international airlines have confirmed that they will expand services to and from the largest city in Switzerland this winter. For instance, Etihad will gradually increase its flights between Zurich and Abu Dhabi, rising to two per day by June next year. Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong) and Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa) will also run daily flights this winter.

Air India will extend its flight to New Dehli to cover the winter as well as the summer, while Oman Air will increase its offering to Muscat to five flights a week. SWISS has confirmed that it will extend its summer route to Cluj in Romania and Košice in Slovakia to run three times a week during the chilly season, and continue its daily flight to London Gatwick. Finally, Eurowings will extend its summer service between Zurich and Berlin into winter, offering up to 11 flights a week.
