According to data compiled by Global Product Prices, Switzerland has the most expensive eggs of any country around the world. 12 eggs in the alpine nation now cost 6,14 Swiss francs on average.

Slovakia and Norway behind Switzerland for eggs prices

While Switzerland has the most expensive eggs in the world, egg prices in Slovakia and Norway are not far behind, costing 4,94 francs and 4,48 francs per dozen respectively. Thankfully, as people in Switzerland have relatively high salaries, the price of eggs is better compensated than in other countries in the top 10 like Uruguay and Angola.

Several factors have caused egg prices to surge throughout the past year, with factors ranging from increasing cases of bird flu to growing political and economic uncertainty after the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as conflict in eastern Europe.

Even the United States has seen egg prices rising in recent months, pushing the nation into fifth place with 12 eggs now costing 4,34 Swiss francs. Other nations have faced shortages of eggs or have been forced to stop producing free-range varieties as hens have been kept inside to protect them from illness.
