Swiss Post blocked from increasing most of its prices in 2026

Swiss Post has been blocked from implementing a large portion of its planned price increases for 2026. This means that many costs will not rise next year, although some are going ahead.

Swiss Post blocked from implementing “profit-enhancing” measures

Swiss Post submitted plans for price measures totalling nearly 71 million euros to the price regulator, the Federal Price Supervisor, arguing that it was facing a challenging financing situation for its basic postal services and noting negative developments in individual business areas.

However, the bulk of the increases were rejected by the price regulator on the basis that Swiss Post achieved a profit in 2024. It concluded that “no profit-enhancing measures” were necessary for 2026, SRF reports

Of the 70,9 million Swiss francs in price measures, 50,1 million will not go forward, including price increases for A and B post items, the PO box service, and the delivery fee for free newspapers.

Cost of sending some parcels will increase in 2026

However, the price regulator did greenlight some measures, totalling 20,8 million francs. These increases will apply to bulk deliveries of B post items, fines for unaddressed mail, and print media distribution services.

The cost of sending parcels via the PostPac Economy service will also increase by 50 cents from January 1, 2026. However, private customers will be relieved of the price increases through credits. Anyone who franks a Switzerland-bound parcel through the Post app or online between December 1, 2025 and January 28, 2026, will receive a credit for 5 Swiss francs.

With discussions ongoing as to how to reform the Swiss postal service to make it more future-proof, Swiss Post is implementing some changes to reduce costs in the coming months. One of these is bringing forward the emptying times of around 700 mailboxes to the morning, to save on trips. The affected municipalities were already informed about the change back in July.
