A 14-year-old boy has been caught speeding after stealing his father’s car. The emergency services reported that the boy was driving at 213 kilometres per hour in a 120 zone.

Speeding Swiss youngster to be tried in juvenile court

The youngster stole his father’s car on the evening of October 8. After leaving home, the boy racer drove from Toggenburg to Wil, before taking the motorway in the direction of St. Gallen.

According to Blick, the boy was identified by a monitoring device, which found he was driving at 213 kilometres per hour, breaking the speed limit by 93 km / h. The teenager will now be tried in juvenile court.

Speeding offences in Switzerland

Speeding offences in Switzerland are taken very seriously by the Swiss police. Most notably, in 2010, Switzerland set a world record after fining a speeding driver one million Swiss francs. In the future, the Swiss government plans to ease rules and punishments for speeding offences - though speeding at over 200 kilometres an hour will likely always be punished in the alpine nation.
